Snowdrops begin to raise their weary heads.

January 13, 2012

A walk through the alder carr along the new welly walker trail is a wonderful oppotunity to get close to the beautiful snowdrops that have always created a white wash through the landscape as the winter tails off and the spring begins to consider awakening. The tracks of the harvester and hooves of the cattle have disturbed the ground in the newly coppiced area and so have allowed the bulbs more room and oxygen to grow in a very strong way. We hope that those snowdrops previously lost by people walking throughout the habitat and compacting the soil will begin to return as the designated footpaths are used to restrict the damage to one area only. In time, this area will once again flourish.
